First Book Selection
Ladies, Ladies, Ladies....It has been about four months in the making. We have lasted horrendous heat and roaring rain. However, we had a psuedo meeting to get started and decided on some of the club specifics. Briefly, while I have the time, I can recount some of the main points.
1. The group will meet every third Saturday of the month. This means, the first official meeting is September 18.
2. The host is defined as the person choosing the book for the month and holding the meeting at their place, unless the location needs to be held at another place.
3. The book selection must be provided one month prior to the meeting to allow for enough time to read the book. Also ladies, even if you don't read the book, still participate. It would be very sad to have a meeting with only two people that show up jsut because they read the book.
4. Bring a dish. Even if you are not hosting, its just nice to contribute to the overall group. I know some months are tight, but even a little juice can go a long way.
Well, those are some of the basics. We were going to have a poll to decide what the book is, but I'm just gonna go all in. Eh, getting this far was a chore. The book this month is "Little Bee: A Novel" by Chris Cleave. I tried to stick to the theme of friendship and only found weird chick lit, which I could not make a case for at the moment. The next host can try and figure this out.
Well, ladies. I think that is all for now. Go forth, buy/rent the book and READ!!!! Hopefully, this is the start of a beautiful book-ship.

Erb...
Well to start I'll say that I've wanted to both join and start a book club for a long time. Now I feel like it's the right time to make a committment so I'm glad that this opportunity came along. For a little about me, I'm mostly right, hate being wrong and sometimes stubborn. I am a book collector, and avid reader, and a writer in my mind and in my heart (just not in my job... yet). I am a fiction buff, although I will read non-fiction that catches my interest- and I'm a sucker for trashy romance novels (they make the train ride go a little faster and they always have happy endings, which I love). Anywayyyyyyyy...
My Favorite- Just Above My Head by James Baldwin. Baldwin is my writing soul mate; no one speaks to me like he does.
Last Book I Read- The Shadow of Your Smile by Mary Higgins Clark. She's one of the best in her genre and I'm always on the edge of my seat when I read her.
Book I'd Like To Read- A Mercy by Toni Morrison. I've had the book for some time, but Ms. Morrison is such a hard read that you have to prepare yourself and focus, so you can give her the attention she needs- and I haven't been abole to do that

First Meeting
Well, it's May now. I think that we need to have a first meeting to schedule when we will meet, how often, and create a book list of the future reads. I think that if we plan now to meet in June, then we can actually get together then, without to much getting in the way. I think mid-June would be a good time for the first meeting. June 12th or the 19th. Hopefully you all an let me know what you think about this date.

Tea's Favorites
Well, I guess, I will be the first to start this off...
Favorite Book - Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. There is something about this black man's plight that keeps me rereading this book and going back to it.

Last Book Read - The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Diaz by Junot Diaz. This was part of my book of month missions and surprisingly better than what I expected it to be. It told a wonderous tale about a Dominican family and was able to move back and forth between America and DR.
Book I want to Read - White Teeth by Zadie Smith. I read her book On Beauty and this made me want to go back and read her previous work.
A little about me - I like to read (I guess we already knew this). I need books to get away from my everyday life, but for some reason, as an adult I have to force myself to read them. Umm, nothing more in depth now I guess, I think that about says it all.

Getting Started
Ladies,
First and foremost, thank you for joining the book club that I (we) have been talking about for oh so long. I think it would be easier to organize if it is managed through a blog of sorts, and then this won't crowd our emails. As it stands, there are currenyly five members, Me, Miss Elaine, J boogie, Erb the Love Bug, and last but not least Triple D T (sorry, but your email addy made me do it). At any rate, here is how I see us getting started.
First, we each invite one person to join the book club. It doesn't matter if this person knows no one in the group but you but actually has an interest in being part of the book club. This also allows for diversity in the group (think about it, had I chosen just my friends, nothing would ever be discussed). Once that one person is added to the group, you should have admin rights in the blog to add them so that they too can post (I believe everyone should have an equal say). However, please let them know that in the beginning we need to keep our numbers small so we are not inviting extra members at this time.
After we have our first ten members, we all need to post, three books that reveal something about ourselves - our favorite book (this lets us know what you like to read), the last book read (this lets us know your potential limits), and a book that you want to read (this helps to create our first book list). This is also a good place and time to post just a small introduction to the group prior to our first meeting.
Since I decided to start this mission, I will host the first meeting, which given everyone's crazy calendar will probably be in June since May is already here.
Just a few housekeeping items as folks like to say:
- if you choose to invite a guy, please see if there will be any other guys joining the group. I would hate for the cheese to stand alone.
- feel free to help spruce up the blog as I am writing this while sitting under the dryer. This is a group effort.
- is you cannot make all the meetings, be sure to leave items of note here, as this will help the group hear your voice (can you tell I just finished this semester because I sound just like my instructors).
At any rate, ladies thanks for what I am certain will be an interesting journey!!!
